Beyond the Treatment Table: Get to Know Dr. Amber

Get to know Dr. Amber, a passionate pelvic floor therapist at UpLift! With her dedication to patient care and a specialty in oncology and lymphedema, Dr. Amber is committed to helping you feel your best.

Meet Dr. Amber Weinheimer, one of the incredible pelvic floor therapists at UpLift!

She’s not just an expert in pelvic health—she’s the only oncology-certified physical therapist with pelvic floor training in San Antonio. With additional certifications in manual therapy and lymphedema care, she brings a comprehensive, compassionate approach to healing. Amber is all about helping people move, feel, and live better every single day.

If you’ve ever thought, “Why is my swelling still so intense after surgery?” or “Wait… OB-GYN exams shouldn’t send me into pelvic floor lockdown?” She’s exactly the therapist you want in your corner.

The Journey to Physical Therapy

She earned her undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Rehabilitation Sciences. But Amber didn’t stop there—her thirst for knowledge and dedication to her patients led her to complete residency training in oncologic physical therapy at Baylor Scott & White Institute of Health. She is now an APTA Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Oncologic Physical Therapy, a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, and Dry Needling Certified. On top of that, she shares her expertise as an adjunct faculty member at the University of the Incarnate Word and George Washington University. To say she’s passionate about what she does is an understatement!

Why Pelvic Health?

Amber’s journey into pelvic health started with a realization: she was missing a huge piece of the puzzle when treating her patients with cancer. Many of them—especially those with colorectal, ovarian, or prostate cancer—were dealing with significant pelvic health challenges, yet resources were scarce. She knew she had to bridge that gap.

As she dove deeper, she saw how essential pelvic health is for everyone at every stage of life. And when she went through her own pregnancy and postpartum recovery, she gained firsthand experience of just how valuable this work is. Now, she’s on a mission to make sure her patients feel heard, understood, and empowered in their healing journeys.

Her Approach to Care

Amber’s philosophy? Pelvic floor therapy isn’t just about muscles—it’s about people. She meets each patient where they are, listens to their story, and tailors treatment to their unique needs. Her approach blends hands-on techniques, movement-based strategies, and education because understanding your body is key to lasting results.

She thrives on problem-solving and supporting patients through some of their toughest moments. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, struggling with chronic swelling, or dealing with pain that’s been brushed off for too long, she’s here to help.

Outside the Office

When Dr. Amber isn’t at the clinic, you’ll find her diving into her love for lifelong learning. She enjoys reading, trying new restaurants with her close-knit group of friends, and teaching—whether it’s mentoring students or sharing knowledge with colleagues. Amber loves learning new skills from family and friends and is always up for a fresh challenge!

Her favorite way to unwind? Taking long walks with her family (and her adorable pup), and enjoying some quality time together.

The Doc Is In: Quick Q&A

“What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about pelvic floor PT?”

It’s so much more than just doing Kegels on a mat! Strengthening, relaxing, and coordinating these muscles all play a role. Therapy often includes movement, breathwork, and functional exercises—not just lying down and squeezing.

“What’s one of the biggest misconceptions about pelvic health?”

That it’s only for postpartum women! Pelvic floor therapy helps people of all genders and ages—athletes, cancer survivors, men with pelvic pain, and anyone struggling with bladder, bowel, or sexual dysfunction.

“If you could give one quick tip for better pelvic floor health, what would it be?”

Breathe! Your diaphragm and pelvic floor are best friends—they work together to support your core and pelvic health. Deep, diaphragmatic breathing can help improve stability, reduce tension, and keep things functioning smoothly.
