Frequently Asked Questions

How early can I be seen postpartum?

We like to see our new mamas as early as 3-4 weeks postpartum to check in, address any current symptoms, and begin reconnecting with your core. That being said, whether you are weeks, months, or many, many years postpartum, you can still regain control and strength of your pelvic floor.

Am I able to come to my therapy appointment if I’m on my period?

YES! There are plenty of effective things we can still do during your session that do not involve internal pelvic floor work if you do not want internal work while on your period. However, our therapists are professional & comfortable with performing the internal PF work while menstruation is occurring if warranted.

Is internal pelvic floor work required?

While the internal exam/manual therapy can tell us a lot about your pelvic floor muscles, our therapists have plenty of knowledge, exercises, and other tools we can use to help if internal work is not a good option for you. We value informed consent first and foremost, and you, the patient, are always in control!

What does the internal pelvic floor work involve?

After a thorough explanation & getting your consent, the exam/treatment can be completed either vaginally or rectally. Our goals with either are to assess for muscle tension, coordination/function, and any asymmetries. This is not your typical GYNO exam! We don’t use a speculum or stirrups. It involves the use of 1 gloved, lubricated finger(s) that aims to be non-painful as we talk you through the entirety of what we are doing & more importantly, get your feedback on how it is feeling! Your perception of the feeling of pressure on the muscle(s) gives us information about where the issue may be coming from (nerves, muscle, other soft tissues, etc).

I’m not an athlete; can you still help me?

100% we can help you. We work with people of all activity levels and ages. We believe that everyone can benefit from movement.

Do you provide dry needling?

Yes! We provide dry needling when appropriate for you. At no additional cost!

How do I book an appointment?

Please book your free phone consultation here OR call 210-468-7398

Do you have evenings or weekend appointments available?

Yes! We are open as late as 7 pm on weekdays and from 8-3 on Saturdays.

Do I need a referral to be seen?

NO! Texas is now a limited direct-access state for physical therapy. This means you no longer need a referral to get started with pelvic floor therapy! This saves you valuable time and money, as well as avoids unnecessary diagnostic testing and medications. The sooner you receive treatment for an injury or dysfunction, the faster you will get well! After we complete your initial evaluation, we will handle requesting a referral from your provider if you need one.

How many visits will it take?

This will vary greatly from person to person, depending on what you’re being treated for, how long you’ve been dealing with the issue, what your specific goals are, as well as other factors that will play a role in your recovery. We ask that, at minimum, you plan for a comprehensive evaluation followed by at least a couple of follow-up sessions. However, for more complex issues or more challenging goals, you will likely benefit from more sessions with your therapist to ensure full resolution of symptoms for both the short and long term. Your therapist will be able to give you a more personalized idea at your evaluation.

What can I expect at a typical appointment?

Every appointment will be 100% one-on-one with your therapist. You can expect to spend approximately an hour at each of your appointments. Each session may include a combination of assessment, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, and patient education on how to supplement treatment while at home.
